BOSTON, Mass. (Feb. 22, 2026) … On the strength of a pair of first place finishes from Track Athlete of the Meet
Brianna Charles, the Hampton University women's indoor track and field team finished second at the CAA Championships held at the TRACK at New Balance on Sunday.
Hampton trailed Elon in the team race as the Phoenix came out with 135 points, to Hampton's 121.5. N.C. A&T was third with 93 points as they edged out Towson who amassed 92 points.
Charles won the honor after taking first place with personal bests in the 60 meters (7.38), the 200 meters (23.47) and was a member of the third place 4x400 relay team in 3:49.29.
They also came out with a meet record in the 4x800 relay as
Shari Brown,
Avah Savage,
Mekayla Wilson and
Kylee King ran an 8:55.50.
Hampton made splashes in several events as they came out with 19 points in the 200 meters as Charles won by over four-tenths of a second with Nyla Felton in fourth (24.14) and
Morgan Pruitt in fifth (24.22).
They also amassed 16 points in the 400 meters with Felton in second (55.14),
Arriah Gilmer in fourth (55.63),
Olayinka Yetunde in seventh (56.20) and
Laila Carpenter in eighth (56.36).
In the 800 meters, the Pirates compiled 14 points with King in fourth (2:09.74),
Nia Warren in fifth (2:09.77), Wilson in sixth (2:10.32) and
Avah Savage in seventh (2:10.42).
In the long jump, Hampton came out with 13 points as
Danielle James earned a CAA title with a leap of 6.06m (19-10.75) and
Caylie Jefferson was sixth with a leap of 5.82m (19-1.25).
Rochele Solmon gave Hampton another individual title winning the shot put with a toss of 15.10m (49-6.5).
Hampton pulled nine points in the triple jump as
Danielle James came in second with a leap of 12.26m (40-2.75) and
Arden Gray was eighth in 11.75m (38-6.75).
Saniyah Evans was sixth in the 60 hurdles in 8.72, while
Damali Williams was sixth in the weight throw with a toss of 17.37m (57-0) and
DeAuna Louis was eighth in the pentathlon compiling 3,293 points.
