Pirates Visit Stony Brook and Northeastern In Final Weekend Road Swing

HAMPTON, Va. (Feb. 26, 2026)  … The Hampton University women's basketball team heads to its final weekend road trip of the season as they visit Stony Brook for a 6:31 pm tip on Friday night and then a 1pm start on Sunday at Northeastern.

ABOUT HAMPTON (9-16/3-10)
The Pirates take to the road for their final weekend swing visiting Stony Brook and Northeastern.

Hampton defeated Stony Brook in the CAA opener 63-57 as Aaryn Battle had 23 points and seven boards, while Kayla Lezama added 18 points and Kiki McElrath had 10. This will be the first meeting with Northeastern.

Heading into the weekend Lezama leads the team in scoring averaging 13.5 points per game, while in the CAA she is eighth at 15.2 points per game. She also leads the CAA in league play for 3-point percentage (.431), seventh in 3-pointers made per game (1.8) and is third in free throw percentage (.909). Kiki McElrath is next averaging 12.7 points per game overall and fifth in free throw percentage in CAA games (.868).

On the boards, Le'Asia Foreman leads the Pirates and tied for fifth in the league in rebounding at 7.0 caroms per contest. Olivia Smith shares the team lead the in assists with Battle (76), with Foreman next (40). Foreman leads in steals (42) followed by McElrath (35) then Battle and Lezama with 31 each.

As a team, the Pirates are averaging 59.9 points per game and allowing 62.9. On the boards, they trail 40.9-to-34.6 per game. From the field they are hitting 36.6 percent (578-1578) and allowing opponents to hit 40.2 percent (618-1537). From 3-point range, Hampton is 147-of-541 for 27.2 percent while the opposition is 132-of-468 for 28.2 percent. Hampton has averaged 14.4 turnovers per game and force 17.2 per contest.

ABOUT STONY BROOK (15-12/10-4)
The Seawolves close out their home slate with Hampton and then Elon on Sunday for Senior Day.

Janay Brantley leads Stony Brook in scoring at 12.9 points per game followed by Diaka Berete at 11.1 ppg. Caitlin Frost leads them on the boards averaging 7.2 rpg, with Sandra Frau Garcia coming in hauling 4.9 rpg. Frau Garcia leads the team in assists with 127 and in steals with 65.

As a team, Stony Brook is averaging 58.6 points per game and allowing 56.8. They're hitting .388 from the field (571-1471) and their opponents are hitting .392 (586-1493). From 3-point range they are hitting .311 (156-502) and allowing their opponents to hit at a .289 clip (136-477). On the boards, they are outrebounding their opponents 36.9-to-32.8 per game. The Seawolves are forcing 16.4 turnovers per game and turning the ball over 17.6 times per game.

SERIES VS. STONY BROOK
The all-time series is tied 3-3 as Hampton has won the last three meetings. They defeated Stony Brook in New York last year 59-57 and then again in the CAA Tournament winning 76-75.

ABOUT NORTHEASTERN (7-18/3-12)
The Huskies play at Drexel on Friday night before heading home to face Hampton on Sunday.

Camryn Collins paces Northeastern in scoring at 11.7 ppg, followed by Yirsy Queliz at 10.2 points per game and she leads in assists with 67. On the boards, Justice Tramble tops the team at 6.0 rpg, followed by Alyssa Staten at 5.0 rpg.

As a team, Northeastern is averaging 61.2 points per game and allowing 67.6. They're hitting .394 from the field (556-1410) and their opponents are hitting .423 (607-1435). From 3-point range they are hitting .296 (111-375) and allowing their opponents to hit at a .319 clip (169-529). At the foul line, Northeastern hits at a .703 rate (307-437), while opponents are at .699 (307-439). On the boards, they are being outrebounded by their opponents 35.9-to-35.4 per game. The Huskies are forcing 15.9 turnovers per game and turning the ball over 17.8 times per game.

SERIES VS. NORTHEASTERN
Northeastern leads the all-time series 3-1 after Hampton won the last meeting 68-66 on March 2, 2025 in Hampton. The Pirates are 0-2 all-time at the Cabot Center.

BATTLE RETURNS…TO FANFARE
Sewell, New Jersey native and junior guard Aaryn Battle returned to action at Drexel after missing seven games on February 6 to a friendly return as her high school basketball team, Camden Catholic, were sitting behind the Pirates bench cheering on their alum. She had five points, four rebounds and four assists in her return to the court.

BREAKING MARKS - DEFENSE
The 48 points allowed to UNCW on January 30 is the lowest against a NCAA Division I opponent this season. William & Mary scored 49 against the Pirates on January 16 and Stony Brook scored 54 points in the CAA opener.

Those 48 points are also the second lowest allowed in a CAA contest since Hampton joined the league. Hofstra scored 42 points in falling 49-42 to Hampton on March 1, 2024.

APPROACHING SINGLE SEASON TEAM TOP 10'S
Coming down the home stretch of the regular season, the Pirates have cracked a couple of team all-time top 10 categories.

They have hit 147 three-pointers which ranks them ninth on the all-time single season list. Next up is the 2012-13 team with 151 triples and then the 2018-19 squad with 152.

They have also blocked 101 shots as a team and are now ninth on the all-time single season list surpassing the 100 by the 2015-16 team at 97 held by the 2010-11 and 2017-18 teams.
 
PLAYED THEM TIGHT
Last year, the Pirates were involved in 18 games, including seven of their last 10, that were decided by 10 points or less and sported a 7-11 mark in those games.

In Hampton's Battle of the Bay win over Norfolk State, the Pirates picked up where that left off last season scoring a 57-55 win which snapped a 28-game home court winning streak for the Spartans. They pulled another two-point win on November 29 with a 58-56 victory over Buffalo.

So far in 2025-26, the Pirates are 4-6 in games decided by 10 points or less.

Freshman Akilah Shelton has made her mark this season on the defensive side with a team best 42 blocked shots. That total ranks her ninth in the nation among freshman in blocked shots.
