STONY BROOK, N.Y. (March 15, 2026) … The Hampton Pirates softball team called upon the long ball on Sunday to snap a six-game losing streak.
Camryn Hamilton and
Carmynn Bonner hit solo shots and
Sydney Evans had a two-run blast to help the Pirates defeat the Stony Brook Seawolves 5-3 on Sunday afternoon.
Stony Brook (5-17, 2-4) opened scoring in the bottom of the second as Naiah Ackerman put the hosts on the board with a solo home run.
Hampton (6-16, 1-5) answered with a run in the third as
Myiah Sutton walked and was sacrificed to second by
Taylor Ivey. Bonner followed with a single up the middle to plate Sutton and even the game at 1-1.
The home run assault for Hampton started in the fourth as Hamilton took a 1-0 pitch and deposited it into centerfield putting the Pirates up 2-1.
In the fifth, the Pirates pushed the margin to 3-1 as with one out Bonner blasted her fourth home run of the season to center. That home run was the 13
th of her career and puts her one in away from breaking into the career top 10 rankings.
Hampton found a two-run blast in the sixth taking the lead to 5-1 on a blast by Evans. Aitrinha Aiken started with a walk and went to second on a pinch-hit single by
Riley Bohanon. After a double play moved Aiken to third, Evans blasted a 1-0 pitch to center for a 5-1 advantage.
The Seawolves had one last shot in the sixth and scored on a two-out single from Ashlynn Burgess to score Ella Hayes who started the inning with a double.
Bonner and Evans had two hits and drove in two runs each to lead Hampton.
Ava Lester earned the win in a complete game striking out seven and allowing six hits.
Hampton starts a five-game homestand on Friday with the start of a three-game series against Hofstra beginning at 3 p.m.
