HAMPTON, Va. (March 24, 2026) … A no-hitter by freshman
McKenzie Rimmer-Jones, the first for Hampton since 2018, helped lead the Pirates in a Tuesday doubleheader split with visiting UMES. The Pirates won the opener 7-0, but fell 5-3 in the nightcap.
The no-hitter for Jones was the first for a Hampton pitcher since Allie Hotetz threw a five-inning no-hitter, ironically against UMES, on March 4, 2018 in a Pirates 14-0 win.
Game One – Hampton 7-0
Hampton got on the board in the first with a pair of runs as
Riley Bohanon opened with a double and Aitrihna Aiken followed with a single. Both moved up a base after a groundout before a sacrifice fly from
Carmynn Bonner plated Bohanon. A single from
Violet Salazar scored Aiken for a 2-0 lead.
Santrea Armstead was hit by a pitch with one out in the second and Jayleen Lewis pinch-ran for her scoring on a triple from Bohanon to put Hampton up 3-0. Another single run for the Pirates came in the third as
Camryn Hamilton singled in
Leah Maduro who started the inning with a single.
Hampton broke it open in the fourth with three runs as Maduro tripled in Aiken and scored as Bonner followed with a single up the middle. Following a single from Salazar, Hamilton singled to left and an error allowed Bonner to score to push the lead to 7-0.
Rimmer-Jones walked three, hit one and struck out two in the no-hitter. Hampton had a season-high 14 hits as Bohannon was 3-for-4, while Aiken, Maduro, Bonner, Salazar and Hamilton all had a pair of knocks.
Game Two – UMES 5-3
After giving up a solo home run in the top of the second, Hampton got two runs across in the home half of the third. With one out,
Taylor Ivey walked and went to second on a Bohanon single. A fielders choice from Maduro moved Ivey to third and both scored on a
Kylee Quinn double.
The score remained 2-1 until the seventh when UMES pushed four across with Gabriella Beltran driving in two with a double highlighting the outburst.
Hampton scratched a run in the bottom of the seventh as Ivey singled and pinch-runner Reeves was forced out on a Bohanon fielders choice. Maduro then doubled to right-center moving Bohanon to third, but the throw to get Bohanon sailed past allowing her to score.
Maduro was 2-for-4 to lead Hampton at the plate in game two as the Pirates had seven hits in the contest. Hampton (7-20) will now head to N.C. A&T for a three-game CAA series starting on Friday at 2 p.m.
