Carmynn Bonner matched her career-high going 4-for-4 to lead Hampton on Sunday as the lost the CAA series finale to Campbell 16-2 in six innings at the HU Softball Stadium.
Hampton (5-13, 0-3) got on the board in the first inning as Bonner singled and was forced out on a fielder's choice by
Sydney Evans. A walk to Aitrinha Aiken and an infield single to Karmynn Brown loaded the bases before
Riley Bohanon beat out an infield single to give Hampton a 1-0 lead.
Campbell tied the game in the second as Charlie Montgomery singled and walks to Kylie Specht and Emma Slutzah which loaded the bases. Madison Ford hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Montgomery and evening the game at 1-1.
The Camels took a 5-1 lead in the fourth on the strength of a three-run home run from Alyss Armijo. Hampton got a run back in the bottom of the inning as with one out
Jayleen Reeves dropped a bunt single and took second on an errant throw. Bonner singled to short advancing Reeves to third and Victoria Salazar singled to right to score Reeves making the deficit 5-2. Campbell broke the game open with three in the fifth and eight in the sixth.
Salazar and Bohanon joined Bonner with multi-hit games today having two hits apiece as Hampton had 12 hits in the game.
The Pirates head to Charlottesville to tangle with nationally-ranked Virginia on Tuesday at 4 pm in a game shown on ACC Network Extra.
