HAMPTON, Va. (Apr. 17, 2026) … Riley Bohanon hit a walkoff single in the eighth inning Saturday afternoon to win 2-1, evening the series at one a piece between Hampton and Charleston.
Ava Lester was dominant in her first two innings of work, facing just six batters and allowing no hits. Hampton's Riley Bohanon and Violet Salazar each recorded leadoff singles in the first two frames, but the Pirates were unable to bring them in.
In the second frame, Lester worked around the Cougars threat, thanks to a diving play by Salazar, and a ground out to second to end the inning, stranding two to keep the game at 0-0.
The two sides went scoreless in the fourth, before Charleston broke through in the fifth. A leadoff double from Savannah Scott was followed by back-to-back bunts to score the first run of the afternoon.
Hampton threatened in the fifth, having runners on first and second with no outs, and tied the game at one when Carmynn Bonner ripped her second hit of the day to plate Jayleen Reeves.
The Pirates threatened in the seventh loading the bases, but Charleston escaped the jam striking out their ninth batter of the game to send it to extra innings.
After another scoreless top half of the frame form Lester in the top of the 8th, Hampton loaded the bases with no outs due to two hit by pitches and an infield single. The Cougars recorded back-to-back outs before Bohanon singled up the middle to give Hampton a 2-1 win.
