HAMPTON, Va. (Aug. 5, 2026) … The Hampton University Pirates women's soccer team will head across the water for their exhibition contest on Thursday night facing Old Dominion at 7 p.m. The game will be held at Powhatan Field in Norfolk instead of on campus at ODU.

Hampton, under first-year head coach Sam Cain, returns 14 players from last season as the Pirates went 5-12-1. Nylah Jennings was the leading scorer last season with five goals and two assists for 12 points. Avery John, who had a hand in all three Hampton shutouts in 2025, returns in goal with a 2.07 goals against average and 83 saves in 17 matches. As a team, the Pirates return 77% of their goals and 73% of their assists.

Old Dominion finished 11-3-4 last season and advanced to the Sun Belt Conference semifinals falling 3-2 to Louisiana Monroe. The Monarchs, under new head coach Will Roberts, return their top two scorers in Riley Mullen (5g, 8a, 18 pts) and Ashley Economopoulos (5g, 5a, 15 pts).

Hampton will start its regular season slate on August 12 when they visit Indiana for an 8pm kick. That will be the first-ever match for Hampton against a Power Four opponent.
