Kameron Smith

Kameron Smith enters his fourth season with the Hampton University football program, serving as quarterbacks coach. He is primarily responsible for helping develop quarterback mechanics and reading progressions.
Last season, senior quarterback Jaylian Williamson earned Third Team All-MEAC honors after he topped the conference in passing yards per game (208.2), second in total offense (206.0 yards per game) and fourth in passing efficiency (115.2).  He threw for 2290 yards and 11 touchdowns in 11 games.  Williamson was six completions away from tying the school record for completions per season with 193.

In 2015, Smith coached University of Virginia transfer David Watford, who was a Second Team All-MEAC selection after leading the conference in passing yards (209.8 per game) and ranking second in total offense (228.0 yards per game). In 10 games, Watford threw for 2,088 yards and 21 touchdowns, ranking second in program history in touchdown passes in a season.

Watford also ranks third in completions per season (167).

Smith was a three-year starter at quarterback at Winston-Salem State, where he played under current Pirates head coach Connell Maynor. Smith holds HBCU records for most wins in a season, 14 in 2012, and he went 31-4 as a starter. Smith threw for 7,540 career yards and 96 touchdowns.

In 2012, Smith was named Doug Williams Black College Football Offensive Player of the Year, Pigskin Club Offensive Player of the Year, and CIAA Offensive Player of the Year. The First Team All-CIAA selection was also named a First Team All-American and Offensive Player of the Year by BoxToRow.

He was also an All-Region selection by Don Hensen’s D-II Football Gazette, and the Associated Press named Smith a Div. II Second Team All-American. Jet magazine named him the 2012 Offensive Player of the Year.

In 2013, Smith was the quarterback for the Kiel Baltre Hurricanes, before returning stateside to get his coaching start at his alma mater.

In 2014, Smith was the quarterback for the Nebraska Danger of the Indoor Football League.

Smith, a native of Garner, N.C., graduated from Winston-Salem State with a degree in business management. In his spare time, he enjoys riding hot rods and ATVs, as well as fishing.
