Luke Butler

Luke Butler is in his seventh season as the Head Strength and Conditioning coach for the Hampton University football program, where he is responsible for designing and implementing all aspects of training and nutrition for the Pirates’ student-athletes.

Butler played quarterback at Idaho State from 2005-07, before he transferred to Augustana College in 2008. At Augustana, Butler set the school’s single-season touchdown record and tallied the most wins for a senior class in school history.

He was also the Northern Sun Conference Player of the Week five times.

After receiving his Bachelor’s degree with a double major in Exercise Science and Fitness Management from Augustana, where he also served as a strength and conditioning intern his senior year, Butler was an Athletic Performance Coach at UCLA in 2010. From there, Butler was hired at Auburn University as a strength and conditioning coach. At Auburn, he assisted with Football and served as the lead coach for Softball and Equestrian from 2011-12, while also receiving his Master’s degree.

After leaving Auburn, Butler spent six months as a tactical strength and conditioning coach with the U.S. Air Force Special Operations before coming to Hampton.

Butler is currently Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches association (CSCCa), as well as CPR/AED certified through the American Heart Association.

Butler is a native of Pocatello, Idaho, and he is married to the former Carolina Villarreal. In his spare time, he enjoys cooking, traveling, and reading.
