Markus Lawrence is in his third season as an assistant coach with the Hampton University football program, joining head coach Connell Maynor’s staff; this season, Lawrence will coach the team’s tight ends.

Lawrence served as assistant offensive line coach in 2014.

Lawrence was a four-year offensive lineman for Winston-Salem State, playing for Maynor from 2009-12. He was a two-time Black College All-American (2011, 2012), on top of earning the Gene Upshaw Lineman of the Year award as a senior in 2012. The Rams reached the NCAA Div. I national title game in Lawrence’s senior season.

He was also a two-time All-CIAA selection, and in 2012, Lawrence was named a Daktronics All-American and an AP-Little All-American.

The Charlotte, N.C. native has two brothers: Brandon (30) and Nicholas (18).
