Lauren Johnson joined the women's basketball staff in June of 2021 as an assistant coach after two seasons at Big South Conference member Charleston Southern.
Prior to her two seasons at Charleston Southern, she started her coaching career at her alma mater Southern Wesleyan University in Central, S.C. Johnson spent four seasons on the bench, which included a pair of years as the head junior varsity coach.
She served two seasons as an assistant coach at NCAA Division II Augusta University. In the 2018-19 season on the Augusta bench, the Jaguars nearly doubled their win total from the previous season. Johnson spent four seasons as an assistant coach for Southern Wesleyan University in Central, S.C., from 2013-17. She picked up the clipboard at SWU after finishing her playing career with Warriors following the 2012-13 season.Â
Johnson was named to the SSAC All-Conference team, while also earning All-American and All-Region honors during her time at Southern Wesleyan University. Her 510 points as a senior are the highest single season total since the 2003 season. Johnson was also the head junior varsity coach for the Warriors for two seasons during her coaching stint.
She is a native of Chesapeake, Va. and attended Western Branch High School.  For the Bruins, she was a two-time All-City and All-District selection along with a 2009 All-Tidewater and 2009 Virginia High School League All-Star. Johnson started her collegiate career at South Carolina State scoring a career-high 16 points as a freshman against UNC Asheville.
