Hampton University sophomore pitcher Jailynn Jackson was named HU Athlete of the Week on Monday following her performance this past weekend on the softball field.

Jackson (Virginia Beach, Va.) went 2-1 on the mound this past weekend in the Lady Pirates Classic, totaling 21 strikeouts over 21.0 innings of work. She struck out a career-high 10 batters in Sunday’s 2-1 loss to Delaware.

She scattered four hits and struck out six in Friday’s 4-2 win over Central Connecticut State. Jackson gave up just five runs over three games – only three of which were earned.

Jackson has recorded at least five strikeouts in eight of her last nine appearances.
