Hampton University junior Gellert Varga was named HU Athlete of the Week thanks to his performance on the tennis courts.

Varga (Becej, Serbia) helped lead the Pirates to the MEAC Northern Division regular-season title, beating Howard's Devard Wharton 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 in singles play, before teaming up with Nelio Mattos to beat Wharton and Omar Haloui in doubles play.

He also defeated Morgan State's Dimtiry Chekhlatyy 6-2, 6-4 to finish the season 4-0 in MEAC play and 11-2 overall. Varga and Mattos also beat Kevin Charles and Eric Ward 8-3 in doubles play.
