CHESAPEAKE, Va. – The Hampton University bowling team had another strong showing this past Saturday and Sunday in the Hampton Roads Collegiate Bowling Invitational, which the team co-hosted with Norfolk State.
The Lady Pirates went 6-4 for the weekend, finishing fourth in 5-person team play with a 2-3 mark and going 4-1 in Baker match play.
On Saturday, Hampton opened total pinfall action with an 835-849 loss to Bowie State, before beating St. Paul's 842-786. The Lady Pirates then fell 813-899 to St. Peter's and 802-934 to Norfolk State, before beating Long Island 796-793.
Hampton was fourth among the six teams with 4,087 total pins, averaging 817.4 per match. Norfolk State led the field in total pinfall with 4,616 – an average of 923.2 per match.
Senior
Jazzminn Richey-Obey (Lorain, Ohio) led the Lady Pirates for the second straight week, rolling an 860 on Saturday – 172.0 per match. She bowled a 191 against St. Paul's, after rolling a 188 against Bowie State.
Sophomore
Rebecca Glazier (Newport News, Va.) had 735 total pins, despite only bowling in four matches – her average of 183.75 was sixth-best among individual bowlers, and she bowled a team-best 205 against St. Peter's.
Nicole Kettler had 802 total pins on Saturday, averaging 160.4 per match.
Sunday's Baker match play action saw Hampton beat St. Paul's 4-3, Bowie State 4-1 and Norfolk State 4-2, before falling 2-4 to Long Island. The Lady Pirates closed Baker play with a 4-1 win over St. Paul's.
The Lady Pirates (13-7) will return to action Friday, Saturday and Sunday, when they head to Howell, N.J. for the Fairleigh Dickinson New Jersey Jamboree.
