NORFOLK, Va. – The Hampton University volleyball team fell in three sets to Norfolk State at Echols Hall on Wednesday, as the Lady Spartans took a
3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-19) win.
Norfolk State hit .286 as a team, thanks to 39 kills and just 13 errors in 91 total attacks, hitting a team-best .480 in the second set (15 kills, three errors in 25 attacks) and .250 in the third set (14 kills, five errors in 36 attacks).
The Lady Spartans also held a 7-6 advantage in service aces.
Hampton (7-24) hit .105 as a team, recording 25 kills and 16 errors in 86 attacks. The Lady Pirates hit a team-best .154 in both the second and third sets (eight kills, four errors in 26 attacks in both sets).
Senior
Aaryn Harrison (Cary, N.C.) led the Lady Pirates with nine kills, while senior
Lina Cordoba (Bogota, Colombia) added five kills without committing an error in seven attacks for a team-best .714 hitting percentage.
Sophomore
Mariah Baylor (Minneapolis, Minn.) had three of Hampton's six service aces.
Juniors
Juliana Chavez (Bogota, Colombia) and
Lihi Elkayam (Misgav, Israel) each had a team-high nine assists for the Lady Pirates, while sophomore
Brittany Hill (Sacramento, Calif.) led the way with nine digs on defense.
Harrison, Chavez and Elkayam each had four digs.
Charlotte Armstead led Norfolk State (12-18) with 16 kills, hitting .483 thanks to just two errors in 29 attacks and also recording a team-high three service aces. Jasmine Frazier hit a team-best .667 with six kills and no errors in nine attacks.
