Katerina Pappa and
Racquel Frazier recorded eight kills apiece for Hampton on Friday night as they dropped a 25-14, 25-20, 25-15 decision to William & Mary in a Coastal Athletic Association matchup inside Holland Hall.
The opening set saw five ties early as a Frazier kill leveled the match for Hampton at 5-5. William & Mary broke the set open with an 11-2 run as a Hampton attack error gave the Tribe a 16-7 advantage as they pulled away from there for a 25-14 first set.
In the second set the Tribe raced out to a 9-2 lead after a Nicole Smith kill. Another Smith kill pushed the lead to 12-4, but the Pirates clawed back and scored six of the next seven points to trail 13-10 after a Tribe attack error. A kill from Pappa put Hampton down 14-11, but that was as close as the Pirates got in falling 25-20 in the second set.
The third set was a nip-and-tuck affair to start as Hampton scored three straight points highlighted by a kill from
Morgan Warren to eventually even the match at 8-8. William & Mary scored the next six points and took the final set 25-15.
Warren added 19 assists for Hampton, while
Jaya Rimm,
Maria Clara Andrade joined Warren for the team lead in digs with four.
These teams will conclude their regular seasons on Sunday with a 1 p.m. start inside Holland Hall.
