HAMPTON, Va. (Nov. 4, 2025) … Morgan Warren tied a career high of 53 assists, ranking third most in a four set match, as Hampton falls to Norfolk St. 3-1 (21-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-27) in the Battle of the Bay.
Norfolk St. jumped out to an early 5-2 lead Tuesday night after a few Hampton miscues. Racquel Frazier and Jaya Rimm quickly answered for the Pirates knotting the score at five. The two teams traded blows for the remainder of the first set, but it was Hampton ripping off a 6-0 run courtesy of multiple Frazier kills, but ultimately it was the Spartans closing the set out on a 5-0 run of their own to take set one.
The second set was once again a set of runs. Hampton rattled off five early points capped off by back-to-back Rimm kills. The Pirates continued to extend their lead in the set, taking a two point lead midway through after a kill by Katerina Pappa. Over the course of the next ten points, the Pirates and Spartans traded points, but once more it was Norfolk St. earning back-to-back clutch points to close the set to take a 2-0 lead.
Hampton refused to go down without a fight in the third set. After falling down 4-0, the Pirates responded with five straight points on multiple Spartan errors. Norfolk St. took a 15-12 lead into the media timeout, but the Pirates exploded out of the break. Hampton took the lead after a 8-3 run to take the momentum. The Pirates eventually took the set 25-23 when Frazier once more buried home one of her 24 kills on the night.
The fourth set was no shortage of drama again. Hampton took an early 9-6 lead, before Norfolk St. took the lead into the media timeout 15-13. Pappa regained the momentum for the Pirates again in the ladder half, recorded multiple kills to keep Hampton at bay. After a Frazier kill, Hampton led 25-24, but it was Norfolk St. recording back-to-back points to win the set and match.
Warren's 53 assists led the Pirates offensively, while the two headed monster of Frazier (24) and Pappa (21) combined for 45 of the teams 61 kills on the night. Frazier, Warren and Rimm all recorded 15 or more digs on the night to lead Hampton defensively.
