BOWLING WINS FIVE AT MEAC NORTH MEET

MILLSBORO, Del. – The Hampton University bowling team had a strong showing at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) North Meet hosted by Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday and Sunday.

The Lady Pirates went 5-5 on the weekend, tied for the third best mark with Morgan State. Maryland Eastern Shore went 9-1 over the weekend, with Delaware State going 7-3. Howard went 4-6, while Coppin State went 0-10.

Hampton was 2-3 in 5-person team match play, opening with a 944-1,188 loss to UMES before beating Delaware State 933-931. The Lady Pirates then fell 875-884 to Howard and 926-954 to Morgan State, before beating Coppin State 1,027-668.

Sophomore Rebecca Glazier (Newport News, Va.) tallied a team-best 993 pins in 5-person action, topping the 200-pin mark three times. She bowled a 214 against Coppin State to go along with a 212 against Delaware State and a 201 against Howard.

Glazier averaged 198.6 pins per match.

Freshman Pamela Kettler (Cincinnati, Ohio) totaled 933 pins, averaging 186.6 per match. She bowled a 200 against UMES.

Freshman Amy Chirico (Hazleton, Pa.) totaled 803 pins – the third-highest total on the team – in just four matches, averaging 200.8 pins per match. She bowled a team-best 229 against Coppin state and a 225 against UMES.

Freshman Nicole Kettler (Cincinnati, Ohio), the reigning MEAC Bowler of the Week, rolled a 211 against Morgan State and a 209 against Coppin State.

The Lady Pirates went 3-2 in Baker total pinfall action, opening with a 641-779 loss to Delaware State and a 671-792 loss to UMES. Hampton then won three straight matches, beating Morgan State 726-632, Coppin State 740-494 and Howard 671-611.

Hampton (58-61, 16-14 MEAC) qualified for the 2011 MEAC Bowling Championships, which will be held March 18-20 in Greensboro, N.C. The Lady Pirates finished the season with a winning conference record for the season straight year.
