STRAKOVA NAMED MEAC PLAYER OF WEEK FOR FOURTH TIME

NORFOLK, Va. – For the fourth time this season, Hampton University junior rightside Vendula Strakova has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

It is also her second straight such honor.

Strakova (Brno, Czech Republic) hit a combined .483 in three matches for the Lady Pirates (10-8, 4-0 MEAC) last week – including a .615 clip in Sunday's straight-set win over rival Howard. She had 18 kills in that match, and for the week, Strakova totaled 49 kills.

She also had 16 kills and 11 digs in Friday's straight-set win over Coppin State for her 11th double-double of the season. Strakova also had three aces in that contest.

Bethune-Cookman's Alexas Thomas was named MEAC Rookie of the Week.

Strakova and the Lady Pirates are off until Sunday, when they welcome defending MEAC champion Maryland Eastern Shore to Holland Hall for a 3 p.m. tilt.
