LADY PIRATES DRAW S.C. STATE IN MEAC QUARTERFINALS

2013 MEAC Volleyball Championships Bracket

BALTIMORE, Md. –
For the third straight year, the Hampton University volleyball team will take on South Carolina State in the quarterfinal round when the 2013 MEAC Championships begin on Friday at Coppin State University.

The Lady Pirates, the top seed in the MEAC Northern Division, will take on South Carolina State, the No. 4 seed in the MEAC Southern Division, at 1 p.m.

Hampton (16-10, 10-2 MEAC) has won three straight matches to close out the regular season and wrapped up the first Northern Division title in program history. South Carolina State claimed the Southern Division's final qualifying spot with a 5-5 mark in MEAC play.

The Lady Pirates are 16-22 all-time against South Carolina State and have won each of the last three meetings — two of which have come in the quarterfinals of the 2011 and 2012 MEAC Championships. Hampton swept the Lady Bulldogs last season, and the Lady Pirates won the 2011 quarterfinal match-up in four sets.

Coppin State will be the Northern Division's No. 2 seed after winning a tiebreaker over Howard, which will be the North's No. 3 seed. Norfolk State will be the Northern Division's No. 4 seed and will take on Southern Division top seed Florida A&M in Friday's quarterfinals.

North Carolina A&T and Bethune-Cookman are the Southern Division's No. 2 and No. 3 seeds, respectively.

The top four teams in each division qualify for the MEAC Championships.

In the Northern Division, Morgan State, defending MEAC champion Maryland Eastern Shore, and Delaware State did not qualify, while in the Southern Division, North Carolina Central and Savannah State did not qualify.

Admission for the championship tournament is $7 each day and $15 for three-day passes. General Parking will be $5 in Lot H. For up-to-date schedule information, visit www.MEACsports.com.
