HAMDEN, Conn. – The Hampton University men's basketball team will look to get back into the win column on Wednesday, when the Pirates kick off a five-game road trip against Quinnipiac at the TD Bank Sports Center at 7 p.m.

Du'Vaughn Maxwell (Manhattan, N.Y.), as well as 17 points and seven assists from sophomore guard

The Bobcats (2-1) beat Albany 79-69 this past Saturday, thanks to 24 points from guard Umar Shannon. Junior guard Zaid Hearst added 14 points and 12 rebounds, while junior forward Ousmane Drame had 18 points and 10 rebounds.
The Pirates were picked to finish fourth in the MEAC this season in a poll voted on by the league's head coaches and sports information directors. Hampton tallied 456 points and earned a first-place vote. Hampton is in its fifth season under head coach Edward Joyner Jr., and the Pirates return four starters and eight letterwinners from last year's squad.
The Bobcats, in their seventh season under head coach Tom Moore, have two seniors and seven juniors, to go along with three freshmen, and they went 15-16 overall last season and 11-7 in the Northeast Conference.
Quinnipiac is in its inaugural season in the MAAC, and the Bobcats were picked to finish seventh in the conference. Senior forward Ike Azotam was a Preseason Third Team All-MAAC selection, after averaging 13.6 points and 7.9 rebounds per game en route to earning Second Team All-NEC honors.
Azotam leads five Bobcats in double figures in scoring, averaging 15.0 points per contest, while Hearst is averaging a team-best 9.3 rebounds per game.
The Pirates are 1-0 against Quinnipiac after beating the Bobcats 70-64 at the HU Convocation Center last season on Jan. 14, 2013. This will be Hampton's first trip to Hamden, Conn. to take on the Bobcats.
Hampton is 3-11 against teams currently in the MAAC since joining the Div. I ranks in 1995. The Pirates are 0-4 against Iona; 0-2 against Manhattan; 1-2 against Monmouth; 0-1 against Niagara; 1-0 against Quinnipiac; 0-1 against Rider; and 1-1 against Saint Peter's.
The Pirates have never faced Canisius, Fairfield, Marist, or Siena.
The Pirates went 7-8 on the road last season, and they closed out the regular season by winning their last six road contests. During Joyner's career as a head coach, Hampton is 21-34 overall in true road games away from the Convocation Center after beating Saint Peter's 64-59 on Nov. 12.
