LADY PIRATES WIN TWO AT MEAC NORTH DIVISION MEET

Hampton, Va. – The Hampton University bowling entered Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play on Saturday and Sunday, competing in the second MEAC Northern Division meet of the season hosted by the Lady Pirates.

The Lady Pirates went 2-7 on the weekend, which included a 1-3 mark in Saturday's match play and 1-4 in Sunday's Baker action.

On Saturday, the Lady Pirates opened match play with a 676-757 loss to Coppin State and a 684-830 loss to Delaware State. From there, Hampton went on to beat Howard 707-661, before falling to defending champs UMES 717-874.

Newcomer Laina Rivers (Bloomfield, CT) led the Lady Pirates with 772 total pins on Saturday, averaging 154.4 pins per match. She bowled a season-best 192 against Delaware State, a 148 against Howard, and 147 against Coppin State.

The Lady Pirates showed their continued growth by having breakout games from Senior Pamela Kettler (Cincinnati, Ohio) who rolled a 198 against UMES. Freshman Evann Smith (Indianapolis, IN) bowled a 160 against Howard, Tiauna Mathieu (Jamaica, NY) bowled a 153 against UMES, and Freshman Kayla DeSchepper (Lakewood, Colo.) rolled a 151 against Morgan State.

On Sunday the Lady Pirates finished the division meet beating Howard in Baker total pins 620-543.

The Lady Pirates will return to action on Jan 18-19, when they head to Bowie, Md. for the Frederick E. Underwood Bulldog Classic.
