Washington, D.C. – The Hampton University Tennis team split its MEAC conference match against Howard University this past weekend in Washington, D.C.
The Pirates (4-8) claimed an early point by picking up the doubles action point.
Park Wan-Young (Daeduk-Gu, Daejeon) and
Advait Kirtane (Toronto, Ontario) defeated Mitchell and Davis 9-7 in No. 1 doubles action.
Alvin Fludd (Suitland, MD) and
Kenneth Greene (Philadelphia, PA) defeated Sorrell and Kendall 8-1 in No. 3 doubles. At No.2 doubles Dzakovic and Burns took down
Lakshmana Satchithananthan (Toronto, Ontario) and
Joshua McQueen (Miramar, Fl) 5-7.
In singles action, Fludd defeated Mitchell 6-2 6-4, while Park defeated Davis in three sets 6-0 0-6 6-2.
Advait Kirtane put away the match for the Pirates, taking down Dzakovic 6-3 6-2, to give the Pirates a 4-0 team win.
In the Lady Pirates doubles,
Melanie Scott (Gardena, CA) and
Danielle Butler (Hawthorne, CA) dropped their match 4-7 to Stokes and Johnson in No.1 doubles position. Howard gained the one point advantage by defeating
Tabita Daolio (Centro Campinas, Brazil) and
Daneya Charles (Kingstown, St. Vincent) 1-8 at No. 2 doubles.
In singles action, Stokes defeated
Melanie Scott 1-6 0-6 at No. 1 position, while Mughnee defeated Daolio 0-6 2-6 at the No. 2 position. At No. 3 position Butler dropped her match against Roheman 2-6 2-6. Howards took the top three singles to win the match defeating Hampton 4-0. At No. 1 position
The Pirates will return to action when they face Maryland E. Shore on April 5th 2013 at the Neilson-Screen Stadium on the campus of Hampton University.
