HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University volleyball team will open its 2013 home schedule on Tuesday at 7 p.m., taking on the Tribe of William & Mary in Holland Hall.
The Lady Pirates (5-7) are coming off a weekend in which they went 1-2 in the New Mexico State/UTEP Invitational, beating South Dakota State in straight sets before falling in four sets to both New Mexico State and Texas-El Paso.
William & Mary comes into the match at 4-10 on the season, and the Tribe have lost three straight matches after an 0-3 effort this past weekend in a tournament at the University of Virginia.
The Lady Pirates are ranked in the top five in the MEAC in every statistical category, and they lead the conference in hitting percentage (.215), kills (13.40 per set), and assists (12.09 per set). Hampton is 43rd in the nation in aces (1.57 per set) and 81st in kills.
Junior rightside
Vendula Strakova (Brno, Czech Republic) leads the nation in points, averaging a MEAC-best 6.44 per set, and she is second in the nation in kills with 5.47 per set. Her conference-best 0.53 service aces are 15th in the nation, and Strakova is fourth in the MEAC with a .251 hitting percentage.
Senior setter
Bibiany Fonseca (Uberlandia, Brazil) leads the MEAC with 10.19 assists per set.
The Lady Pirates are 0-17 all-time against William & Mary.
