LADY PIRATES TAKE STREAK TO SOUTH CAROLINA STATE

ORANGEBURG, S.C. –
Riding a five-game winning streak, the Hampton University women's basketball team will take to the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center on Monday, where the Lady Pirates will square off against South Carolina State at 5:30 p.m.
 
The Lady Pirates (15-4, 6-0 MEAC) have also won 36 straight games against MEAC teams.
 
Hampton extended both streaks on Saturday with a 70-46 win over Savannah State in Tiger Arena. Four Lady Pirates scored in double figures, led by 21 points from senior forward Alyssa Bennett (Hampton, Va.), who also had nine rebounds.
 
She went 8-for-11 from the floor.
 
Freshman guard Malia Tate-DeFreitas (Harrisburg, Pa.) added 15 points, while junior guard Kenia Cole (Silver Spring, Md.) and senior guard Nicole Hamilton (Hampton, Va.) each added 11 points.
 
Hamilton is 16 points shy of 1,000 for her career.
 
The Lady Bulldogs (5-11, 3-3 MEAC) were picked to finish seventh in the MEAC this season, their fifth under head coach Doug Robertson. Junior guard Kourtney Williams in the team's top scorer, and the only Lady Bulldog in doubled figures, averaging 18.6 points per game. Junior center Persephone Goodwin is pulling down a team-high 5.9 rebounds a contest.
 
The Lady Pirates are 26-10 against South Carolina State, including a 59-46 win on the road last season. Hampton has won the last eight meetings between the two teams, and the Lady Pirates are 11-5 against SCSU in Orangeburg, S.C.
 
The Lady Pirates were 13-2 on the road last season, with their only road defeats being at Duke in the NCAA Tournament and at Virginia Tech. Under head coach David Six, the Lady Pirates are 47-18 in road games over the past four-plus seasons. So far this season, the Lady Pirates are 4-3 in true road games after a 70-46 win at Savannah State on Saturday.
 
Hampton has won its last 22 road conference games.
 
Hampton is 301-138 against teams currently in the MEAC — including a 26-10 mark against South Carolina State — and the Lady Pirates have won six MEAC regular-season titles to go along with seven tournament titles, including each of the last four.
