NORFOLK, Va. – The Hampton University bowling team won a pair of Baker matches in its MEAC Southern Division opener this past Saturday and Sunday.
The Lady Pirates (6-10, 2-6 MEAC) went 2-6 overall on the weekend.
Hampton picked up Baker wins over Florida A&M and Norfolk State, both 3-2, while losing matches against Bethune-Cookman (0-5) and North Carolina A&T (0-5).
In head-to-head play, the Lady Pirates dropped matches against Norfolk State (837-1,010), North Carolina A&T (878-1,003), Florida A&M (780-909), and Bethune-Cookman (764-986).
Laina Rivers averaged 189.8 pins for the weekend, racking up a total pinfall of 949 in five head-to-head matches. She bowled a season-high 212 in Hampton's bye – which was one of three 200s the Lady Pirates rolled over the weekend.
Diamond Cummings rolled a 210 against North Carolina A&T, and
Evann Smith bowled a 203 in the same match.
Cummings averaged a 172.4 for the weekend, and Smith averaged a 167.6.
