LEXINGTON, Va. – The Hampton University women's soccer team fell 16-0 to Virginia Military Institute on Tuesday afternoon at Patchin Field.
"I want to commend the student-athletes and Coach (John) McNabb on their continued work in building the Hampton University soccer program," University President Dr. William R. Harvey said. "There are growing pains, but the foundation is being set for a bright future."
VMI struck first in the second minute when Kristen Whitehurst found the upper left corner of the net after a cross, before the second goal came at the 10:00 mark.
Blake Cashin and Sam Boney each scored twice in the first half for VMI. The Keydets (1-1) led 7-0 at the half.
Whitehurst and Sydnie Bligh each had four goals in the match. Boney also had a hat trick.
Violet Adams had 14 saves in net for the Lady Pirates (0-3).
VMI outshot Hampton 56-0.
