JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Hampton University women's soccer team found the back of the net twice in Monday's match against Saint Peter's at Jaroschak Field – a match in which Saint Peter's won 11-2.
It was the first time Hampton (0-4-0), in its inaugural season, scored multiple times in a match.
Hampton first struck in the 76th minute, when
Sydney Jackson scored her second goal of the season on a penalty kick. It was the first PK try for the Lady Pirates on the season.
In the 86th minute,
Raven Williams notched her first career goal, an unassisted strike.
Maya Bouyer spent the first half in net for the Lady Pirates, giving up just four goals and making seven saves. Saint Peter's held a 4-0 lead at the break, the smallest halftime lead for a Hampton opponent so far this season.
But the Peacocks (1-4-0) scored seven times in the second half, taking an 11-0 lead in the 72nd minute. Brooke Tartis, Barbara Paiva, and Michelle Laz each had two goals for Saint Peter's.
Still, Monday's match marked the fewest goals the Lady Pirates have allowed.
The Lady Pirates had four shots in the match, converting both of their on-goal attempts. Bouyer and
Dazna Austin combined to make 13 saves.
Saint Peter's held a 34-4 edge in shots, 24-2 in shots on goal, and 4-0 in corner kicks.
The Lady Pirates will return to action Sept. 18-20, when they return to Lexington, Va. for the VMI Tournament. For more information on Hampton University soccer, please call the Office of Sports Information at (757) 727-5811, or visit the official Pirates website at
