MONTGOMERY SCORES IN LOSS TO FRANCIS MARION

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Hampton University women's soccer team opened the VMI Tournament on Friday with a 9-1 loss to Francis Marion at Patchin Field, a match in which LaTrice Montgomery scored for the first time this season.

The Lady Pirates are 0-5-0 on the season.

Montgomery found the back of the net in the 72nd minute; though her shot was blocked by the defender, the ball had already crossed the mouth of the goal. That tally cut Francis Marion's lead to 7-1 at that point.

Montgomery is the third Lady Pirate to score this season, joining Sydney Jackson (2) and Raven Williams (1).

Francis Marion led 5-0 after the first half, as Helena Moore and Tori Whigham each scored twice in the match's opening 45 minutes. Whigham added a third goal in the second half for the hat trick.

Francis Marion (2-8) had 29 shots to Hampton's eight – and a 16-5 edge in shots on goal.

The Patriots also held a 6-0 edge in corner kicks.

Goalkeepers Maya Bouyer (four) and Dazna Austin (three) combined to make seven saves. Williams took a team-high three shots – one of which was on-goal – while Terisha Simmons took two shots.

The Lady Pirates set a season low in goals allowed.

Hampton will close out the VMI Tournament on Sunday against Presbyterian at 11 a.m. For more information on Hampton University soccer, please call the Office of Sports Information at (757) 727-5811, or visit the official Pirates website at www.hamptonpirates.com.
