HAMPTON, Va. –
The Hampton University men's basketball team returned home for the first time since Nov. 20 on Sunday, falling 89-59 to Princeton.

The Pirates fell to 5-7 overall on the season.

Senior guard Brian Darden led three Pirates in double figures with 17 points on 6-for-12 shooting, while guard Quinton Chievous added 14 points and eight rebounds. Senior guard Reginald Johnson, Jr., added 12 points, going 4-for-15 from the floor.

Senior forward Dionte Adams grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

The Pirates shot 30.3 percent (20-for-66) from the floor, hitting six of their 22 3-pointers (27.3 percent) and going 13-for-19 (68.4 percent) from the free throw line.

Both teams had 41 rebounds.

An Adams jumper at the 16:54 mark of the first half gave the Pirates a 6-4 lead, before Princeton went on an 8-0 run to take a 12-6 lead. The Pirates clawed their way back, though, cutting the deficit to 22-20 on a trey from Chievous at the 9:01 mark.

Darden added a 3-pointer of his own at the 8:15 mark to cut Princeton's lead to 25-23.

But the Tigers scored the next seven points to open up a 32-23 lead, and a Steven Cook layup at the 4:11 mark put Princeton up 38-27. A quick 5-0 spurt closed the gap to 38-32 after freshman guard Akim Mitchell hit two free throws, but Princeton still went into the half with a 42-34 lead.

Darden had 12 points at the half.

A 10-3 run to open the second half put Princeton on top 52-37 following a 3-pointer from Henry Caruso. The Tigers led by double figures throughout the second half, even though a layup from Chievous with 4:39 to play cut the lead to 77-56.

Princeton ended the game on a 12-3 run.

Princeton (8-4) shot 53.8 percent (35-for-65) from the floor and made 12 of its 31 3-pointers (38.7 percent).

Caruso led five Tigers in double figures with 14 points.
