VILLANOVA, Pa. – Hampton University tennis teams started a two-game Pennsylvania road swing as both teams lost 7-0 on Friday to Villanova University.
On the men's side, the number two tandem of
Joshua McQueen and
Matthew Foster-Estwick took a 6-2 win over Luis Miranda and William Elmore for the lone Hampton win on the day. In singles,
Peter Odegbami lost a third-set tiebreaker dropping his match at number three to Miranda 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 1-0 (11-9). Another close match was done by
Fedor Shirin who pushed his match at number two singles with Bradley Noyes falling 7-5, 7-5.
In women's action, the top tandem of Mariam Mitaishvii and
Mikaela Pierce defeated Victoria Martinez and Sydney King 6-3 for Hampton's lone win against the Wildcats. Pierce pushed her singles match at number three to three sets falling 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 to Samantha Schafer, while
Cherise Slocombe did the same at number two losing a tough three-set match 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) to Lindsey Evans.
Both teams will be in action again on Saturday in Philadelphia taking on Temple University starting at 12:30 p.m.
