CLINTON, S.C. – Homestanding Presbyterian College erupted for four goals in the second half to pull away and defeat Hampton University 5-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Francis Whiteside scored the first of her two goals as the only tally in the first half in the 16
th minute from a Kristen Peagler pass for a shot in the top left corner and a 1-0 Blue Hose lead.
Peagler put the first of her two straight goals unassisted goals in the 50
th minute and again in the 53
rd minute to put the hosts up 3-0. The tandem of Whiteside and Peagler teamed up on the fourth goal in the 73
rd minute as Peagler lobbed a pass to Whiteside for a header. In the 81
st minute, Ashlyn Powell closed out the scoring for the hosts with a free kick. Presbyterian (1-0) outshot the Lady Pirates 41-0.
This was the second game in a row for Hampton where they showed improvement from 2015 and cut a margin in half after losing 10-0 to the Blue Hose last season. Â
Hampton (0-2-1) returns to action on September 17 to close out a four-game season-opening road swing taking on Hollins University in Roanoke, Va. at 2 pm.
