WOMEN'S SOCCER WINS FIRST GAME IN HISTORY 5-0 OVER HOLLINS

ROANOKE, Va. – The Hampton University women's soccer team broke new ground on Saturday afternoon in Roanoke, Va. as they scored the first win in the history of the program with a 5-0 shutout over Hollins University.

With the shutout, the team recorded its first clean sheet in the two-year, 14-game history of the program along with the first win as the Lady Pirates are now 1-2-1 on the year.

"I am very pleased with the result today  but we still have a lot to work on," said Hampton University head coach Frank Hughes.   "We had about 10 good minutes in the second half where we were organized in possession and created good chances.   We all are very proud to get the first win in program history and I am happy for our ladies because they worked hard to get it."

Hampton got on the board eight minutes into the contest as Jordan Crawford dribbled through the defense and got one past Hannah Armstrong for a 1-0 lead barely eight minutes in.

Terisha Simmons became the first Lady Pirate to score two goals in a game as she put two in the net over a nearly 23 minute span in the first half.  Her first one came as she went down the left side past the defender for a shot at 23:50 to go up 2-0.  She finished her run at 44:23 when she took a crossing feed from Sydney Jackson and gave Hampton a 3-0 lead with her blast.

Jenai Teamer gave Hampton a 4-0 on a rebound barely two minutes into the second half.  Raven Williams gave Hampton its final tally on a feed from Jackson into the open net for the eventual 5-0 final.

Hampton now will play its first on-campus home game in history on Friday, September 23 at 4 pm when they face University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
