HAMPTON, VA. – The Hampton University women's soccer team played its inaugural home contest on Friday afternoon at the Pirates Soccer Complex and fell to visiting University of Texas Rio Grande Valley 11-0.
Hampton (1-3-1) was outshot by the Vaqueros 43-1 as Sarah Bonney scored five goals for the visitors and assisted on two more. Hannah Spets and Elisa Espino added a pair each for UTRGV (6-2-1).
The Lady Pirates trailed 3-0 after the first 14 minutes and kept the Vaqueros off the board for a nearly 35 minute span into the second half. A pair of goals in a four minute spurt from UTRGV opened the scoring back up.
Sydney Jackson recorded the first Hampton shot on goal on the Pirates Soccer Complex field a minute into the second half.
Hampton returns to action quickly as they'll head to Lincoln, Pa. for a Monday matchup with Lincoln University at 4 pm.
