HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University volleyball team sent their four seniors out in style on Sunday afternoon rallying from a 2-1 deficit to defeat arch-rival Norfolk State 25-17, 18-25, 14-25, 25-23, 15-8 on Sunday afternoon on Senior Day.

With the win, the Lady Pirates finished the regular season 12-16 and 7-5 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Northern Division.  They tied for third place with Morgan State in the standings.

Reeana Richardson had ser second straight double-double with 23 kills and 12 digs, while tossing in two aces and four blocks.   Lena Washington also had another double-double this weekend with 11 kills and 17 digs.  Maja Petronijevic added 17 digs and six assists, while Lena Reed-Petracek had 45 assists, six digs, five blocks, four kills and three aces.  Kennedy Kenney had eight blocks to lead the team.

The first set saw 10 ties and four lead changes as Hampton closed on a 12-2 run with a Washington kill giving the hosts a 25-17 first set win.   Norfolk State showed its power in thenext two sets jumping out to big leads en route to a 2-1 set lead winning 25-18 and 25-14.

Hampton jumped out to a 14-9 lead in the fourth set behind a kill from Richardson, but the Spartans responded trimming the lead to 21-20 which was as close as they got as Hampton won 25-23. 

The Lady Pirates used a 5-1 flurry in the final set to lead 10-5as kills by Washington and Richardson locked up the match for Hampton winning 15-8.

Seedings for the 2017 MEAC Tournament will be announced on Monday as the tournament begins on Friday at Maryland Eastern Shore.
