WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – A 12-2 run by homestanding William & Mary in the last 3:44 doomed Hampton University on Wednesday night in an 83-76 men's basketball loss at Kaplan Arena.
In a game that saw nine ties and 21 lead changes, a David Cohn layup with 4:08 left tied the game at 71-all.
Lysander Bracey drilled a 3-pointer with 3:44 left to put Hampton back in front 74-71, but that turned into the final field goal of the night for Hampton (1-2). A pair of
Jermaine Marrow free throws with 28 seconds left brought the Pirates to 81-76, but that was the end of the night for Hampton.
Marrow had 24 points and four assists to lead Hampton, while
Greg Heckstall added 13 points and
Kalin Fisher chipped in with 10 off the bench. Nathan Knight topped all scorers for William & Mary with 31 points. Matt Milon added 15, Justin Pierce scored 13 and Cohn added 10.
Hampton now starts a four-game run in the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational opening at George Washington on Saturday at 2 pm.
