TRACK TEAMS TAKE THIRD IN MEAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Saturday's Results 

LANDOVER, Md. – The Hampton University indoor track and field teams finished the 2017 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday at the Prince George Learning Complex as both teams finished third in the meet.

The men scored 91 points to trail Norfolk State (96) and North Carolina A&T State (146.50), while the women scored 73.5 points to trail Florida A&M (94) and North Carolina A&T State (145).

Sophomore Charles Graham gave Hampton its lone individual champion in the event as he won the 60 meter hurdles in 7.95 seconds to edge Todd Townsend of N.C. A&T by .01.

The men's 4x400 relay team of Gabriel Johnson, Jerrick Powell, Chace Washington-Saunders and Jaelen Williams ran a 3:18.58 to take second for eight points. 

In the mile, the men made a big push in the standings coming away with 15 points with Geoffrey McCullough taking third (4:!6.13), sophomore Emmanuel Too was fourth (4:17.78) and junior Stanley Davis was fifth (4:18.02).  Too also earned points in the 3000 with a sixth place finish in 8:49.05.  Justin Beatty took fourth in the 400 meters in 49.30 to round out the track placers from Saturday. 

In the field events, Trey Clark was third in the pole vault (13-10) and Isaac Arriola was fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 48-2.

For the women, Meshala Morton took second in the 60 meters (7.44) and fifth in the 200 in 24.70.  She joined Alysha Evans, Erin Morrison and Sashana Hinds to run a 3:49.72 in the 4x400 relay for a third place finish.

In the mile run, Pollyanna Velasco was fifth in 5:15.53, while a pair of teammates took seventh and eighth in the 60 hurdles in freshman Mallory Pitchford (8.64) and sophomore Kylie McMillan (8.83).

In the field events Saturday, Quadaisha Neal was sixth in the pole vault (10-5.5), Kiyanna Thomas was fifth in the shot put (45-1) and Jayme Thomas took fourth in the triple jump (39-10).

Hampton will next see action on February 26 in the Boston University Last Chance qualifier.
