Monnazjea Finney-Smith scored 16 points on Monday night as the Hampton Lady Pirates dropped a 62-44 decision at Florida A&M University in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference matchup.
The Lady Rattlers held the lead throughout the game though Hampton cut it to three points twice in the second quarter. A
K'lynn Willis layup trimmed the deficit to 26-23 with 1:29 left in the half, but a Florence Ouattara 3-pointer with 20 seconds left gave FAMU a 29-23 halftime lead.
In the third quarter, Hampton got to 36-29 on a pair of Finney-Smith free throws with 3:30 left but were shutout the rest of the quarter as the hosts pushed the lead to 42-29 on a 3-point play by Shakerrya Morrison with 41 seconds left. The lead grew to 21 points late in the contest.
Willis was the next leading scorer with eight points and six assists as Hampton shot 15-of-55 from the floor (27.3%) and was out-rebounded 55-36. Finney-Smith was one rebound from a double-double hauling in a team-high nine boards.
Hampton is next on the road at Morgan State on Saturday for a 2pm tip in Baltimore, Md.
