ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – The Hampton University softball team saw its season come to an end on Friday morning in the consolation bracket of the 2017 MEAC Championship with a 3-1 loss to Delaware State at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex.
The Lady Pirates finished the season 23-22.
Hampton scored first, striking in the top of the third inning.
MacKenzie Wise singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from
Danielle Budden. After
Taylor Warrick drew a walk,
Brianna Anderson singled down the left field line to score Wise and put Hampton up 1-0.
Khaliyah Flournory tied the game at 1-1 with an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth.
Delaware State then pushed across a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth, taking a 3-1 lead after a two-run double to left center from Jasmine Melgoza.
Anderson, Wise and Budden each had a hit for the Lady Pirates.
