The Short Story: Hampton dominated the third set on Friday, but could not prevail in a four-set defeat at Gardner-Webb.

BEHIND THE NUMBERS
- The Lady Pirates have now lost six of their past seven contests with all but one coming in Big South competition.
- Friday was the second time Hampton has faced Gardner-Webb. GWU won the first matchup in three sets last season.
- Hampton was out-hit .239 to .109 for the match. Gardner-Webb also held an advantage in attack errors, committing just 14 as the Lady Pirates had 36 miscues at the net.
- Megann Delgado was a bright spot for Hampton, posting 18 kills on an impressive .441 hitting percentage.
- Hannah Donaldson was a disruptive force for the Bulldogs, finishing with 11 blocks to go with five kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hampton looked solid in the first set, leading the majority of the opening frame while holding a 20-18 edge on a Delgado kill. Gardner-Webb closed on a 7-1 run to claim the set win on four attack errors from HU.
- A Sasha Saric service ace helped Hampton jump out to a 6-2 lead in the second set, but GWU ran off 11-straight points to pull away for the two-set lead.
- Hampton dominated the third set, starting on a 6-0 run highlighted by a pair of kills each from Delgado and Saric. HU continued to pull away, taking a double-digit lead at 13-3. The Lady Pirates led by at least eight points the rest of the way.
- Gabby Calloway, Delgado, and Saric anchored the Hampton hitters in the set. The Lady Pirates posted 16 kills in the set against just one error for a .600 hitting percentage.
