The Short Story: Hampton rallied in the second to even the match at one-set all, but Winthrop was too strong, claiming the final two games to earn the conference win.

BEHIND THE NUMBERS
- The Lady Pirates have now lost seven of their past eight contests with all but one coming in Big South competition.
- Saturday was the fifth matchup all-time between the two schools. Hampton is just 1-4 in those, winning last season in five sets.
- HU only managed to hold Winthrop under .300 hitting in one set, the second-set victory for the Lady Pirates.
- Megann Delgado led the Lady Pirates with 18 kills. Gabby Calloway performed well with 14 kills and eight digs.
- With Lena Reed-Petracek out for Saturday's contest, Brooke Irvin stepped up with a career-high 45 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first set was a game of runs, but Winthrop got the final say. With Hampton leading 15-13, the Eagles closed on a 12-3 run for the win.
- Five different Lady Pirates had at least three kills in the second set to secure the win. Lena Washington added four while Kyndall Nicholas, Isis Black, Calloway, and Delgado each added three.
- Hampton had just two leads the remainder of the match, both coming in the fourth set at 1-0 and 8-7.
WHAT'S NEXT
Hampton will host Campbell University (6-12/4-4) on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. Big South start.
