PIRATES SINK PRIVATEERS IN BLUSTERY CONTEST

FINAL SCORE: HAMPTON 51, SUNY MARITIME 10
RECORDS: Hampton 5-3, SUNY Maritime 6-3
LOCATION: Reinhart Field – Throggs Neck, N.Y.
IN BRIEF: Hampton used two Raeshad Herriott first half touchdowns to help race out to a 28-0 lead and cruise to its fourth straight win with a 51-10 victory at SUNY Maritime in Throggs Neck, N.Y.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Hampton scored on its first two possessions taking advantage of an extremely windy day with sustained winds in the 25-30 mph range.   Will Robinson scored on the second play of the game for the Pirates on a two-yard run to lead 7-0 at the 13:23 mark.
  • Herriott followed with a three-yard scamper to finish a nine-play, 53-yard scoring drive to lead 14-0 with 8:11 left in the first.  That drive was set up by a two-yard punt into the wind.
  • Delmon Williams connected with Byron Barney on a 25-yard scoring strike on another quick scoring drive that took all of 39 seconds to go 57 yards for a 21-0 lead with 1:40 left in the opening quarter.
  • Herriott struck again breaking off a 30-yard run as Hampton pushed the lead to 28-0 with 5:20 left in the half.
  • Maritime got on the board with eight seconds left in the half as Ian Ziemeski boomed a 42-yard field goal for a 28-3 halftime lead for Hampton.
  • Williams connected with a pair of scoring passes in the third quarter to highlight scoring drives that took 56 seconds and 17 seconds.  He first found Barney on a 41-yard strike with 13:56 left and then Marcel Paul on a 22-yard scoring pass with 6:39 left as Hampton pushed the lead to 42-3.
  • The wind played a role in Hampton's next score as the Pirates pinned the Privateers inside their own 10 and instead of trying to punt into the wind they ran out of the back of the end zone for a safety and a 44-3 Hampton lead with 2:13 left in the quarter.
  • Brendan Greene finished Hampton's scoring with a six-yard connection to Alec Dana to finish a 17-play, 80-yard drive that took nearly nine minutes off the clock as the Pirates held a 51-3 lead.
  • The hosts got on the board with 13 seconds left as John Lynn found Brendan Drumgole on a nine-yard scoring pass.
BEHIND THE NUMBERS

  • Herriott was the leading rusher in the game with 70 yards and two touchdowns, while Robinson added 65 and one score.

MARITIME TIDBITS
  • Five of Hampton's seven touchdown drives took less than a minute each (20, 39, 13, 56 and 17 seconds)
