LADY PIRATES STREAK SNAPPED IN LOSS TO ELON

FINAL SCORE: Elon 77, Hampton 62
RECORDS: Elon 3-4, Hampton 3-2
LOCATION: Hampton, Va.

IN BRIEF: Junior Ashley Bates scored 17 points and had a season-high six steals but Hampton fell to Elon 77-62 to snap a three-game winning streak on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Elon started the game with a 10-0 run in the first quarter to take its largest lead of the quarter on an Anna Popovic layup at the 7:27 mark.
  • Hampton would tie the game at 12-12 on a Mina Porte free throw at the 3:52 mark. Each team would trade buckets, as Hampton led by one at the end of the first quarter 20-19.
  • In the second, Bates would knock down a three pointer at the 6:40 mark making it 31-21 giving Hampton their largest lead all night. Lady Pirates would go into half up by three 38-35.
  • Kaylah Lupoe would hit a lay up to close out the third, making it a four point Phoenix lead 55-51 at the end of three quarters.
  • Elon opened the fourth scoring the first seven points to take a 62-51 lead on a jumper by Ariel Colon with 7:19 left.  A pair of Laren VanArsdale free throws 11 seconds later cut it to nine.  She converted a three-point play at the 6:53 mark for a 64-56 deficit, but that was as close as Hampton got.
