IN BRIEF: Nationally-ranked N.C. State used a 21-2 run in the first quarter to take control and defeat Hampton 83-51 on Wednesday morning.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hampton got out quickly to a 5-0 lead on a layup and then a 3-pointer by Laren VanArsdale at the 8:19 mark.
- A Mina Porte steal and layup with 6:42 left put Hampton up 7-6. The Wolfpack then ripped off the next 15 points to lead 21-7 on a Kayla Jones layup with 1:25 left in the opening quarter.
- In the second half, the lead got as close as 13 points on a LaShayla Wright-Ponder jumper with 2:17 left as Hampton trailed 52-39.
BEHIND THE BOXSCORE
- VanArsdale was the leading scorer for Hampton with 15 points and four assists.
- She was joined in double figures by Ashley Bates (14 points/four rebounds) and Kaylah Lupoe (10 points/five boards/two blocked shots).
- Kiara Leslie topped three in double figures for N.C. State with 24 points and 12 boards.
NEXT UP
Hampton is now off until December 15 when they host Mid-Atlantic Christian at 4 pm in the Convocation Center. This will be a doubleheader with the men playing St. Leo at 6pm.
