HAMPTON, Va. – Junior
Allie Hotetz threw a five-inning no-hitter as Hampton defeated Maryland Eastern Shore 14-0 in the first game of the Pirate Classic on Sunday.
In the nightcap, Hampton saw the visiting Hawks of North Dakota score five runs in the sixth to defeat Hampton 6-2.
Against UMES, Hotetz faced 16 batters in the five-inning no hitter and struck out three. Only batter to reach base was Heidi Smith on an error in the third, but she was erased the next batter.Â
DaSha Hill,
Cassidy Blackwell and
Kial Watts all had three hits each for Hampton. Blackwell drove in three and scored two, while Watts drove in four and also scored two.
Against North Dakota, Hampton scored an unearned run in the third as
Sarah Kollas reached on an error and later scored on a
DaSha Hill single. In the fifth, Kollas was hit by a pitch and advanced on a wild pitch before scoring on a
Lorena Alvarez single.
Hampton returns to action on Tuesday for a 1pm doubleheader hosting the University of Virginia.
