BALTIMORE, Md. – The Hampton University softball team would split a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference double header with the Coppin State University on Saturday. Lady Pirates would take game one 2-1, but Coppin State would steal game two 5-2
In game one,
DaSha Hill would lead off the top of the fourth and reached based on an infield single to third base. Hill would steal second and reached third on a sacrifice bunt by
Alana VanDenburg.
Cassidy Blackwell would bring hill home to score on a sacrifice bunt.
Kial Watts would pop out to shortstop to end the inning with the Lady Pirates leading 1-0.
Coppin State would respond with a run of their own in the bottom of the fourth to even the game 1-1. The Lady Pirates next at bat,
Taylor Warrick would walk to start the inning and reached second base on a sacrifice bunt by
Morgan Crawford.  Warrick advance to third on a pop foul to left field by
Sarah Kollas. Danella Milloy would rip a single up the middle to bring home Warrick as the Lady Pirates take the lead 2-1.
Allyson Babinsack would hold off Coppin State with five strikeouts to seal the deal as the Lady Pirates take game one in the double header.
Game two, pinch-runner
Camille King scored in the top of the second on a sacrifice bunt by
Sarah Kollas. Hill would single in the third and steal second base to tie the school single-season stolen base record with 39. She would then score on a single to shortstop by
Cassidy Blackwell putting the Lady Pirates ahead 2-1. Coppin State would rally in the bottom of the third scoring three runs to take the lead 4-2. The Eagles would ride the pitching of Madison Didion to hold off the Lady Pirates 5-2.Â
The Lady Pirates will finish the three-game series with Coppin State on Sunday at noon.
