The Short Story: Taylor Callahan scored with eight minutes left in the first half and Sierra Brewer added one three minutes into the second half as VMI defeated Hampton 2-0. This marked the second straight season that Hampton has opened its home schedule with VMI, who now leads the all-time series 4-0.
BEHIND THE NUMBERS
- Maya Andrews made six saves on six shots on net in the first half and Rebekah Smetana had four saves in the second.
- The Keydets led in corner kick opportunities 4-2.
- Hampton had two shots on goal per half, and were outshot 29-4 in the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After 14 shots by the Keydets if the first half, Taylor Callhan collected her first goal of the season in the 37th minute.
- Both Marilyn Cardenas and Maria Vargas of VMI had good looks toward the end of the first half, but both shots were saved as the Keydets took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
- VMI pushed the lead to 2-0 almost three minutes into the second half off a header by Sierra Brewer with an assist from Julianna Knoblett.
- In the second half, VMI came out with two straight shots going high above the net, followed by a shot on net by Julianne Knoblett.
- Hampton would fight back, as with two and half min remaining in the second half Sydney Jackson would create space for a shot attempted but hit the crossbar.
