The Short Story: USC Upstate Spartans jumped out to an early 3-0 lead behind three goals within the first 10 minutes of play to defeat the Lady Pirates. Abbie Ellis would score twice and Emma Honnis added a chip shot as the Spartans jumped out to a quick lead and held Hampton at bay.

BEHIND THE NUMBERS

• Maya Andrews made six saves in the game.
• The Spartans led in corner kick opportunities 3-1.
• Hampton had three shots on goal in the second but, were outshot 12-4 in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Off to a quick start, Emelie Valenciano feeds Ellis who skips one into the back of the net to give the Spartans their first goal of the game within the first three minutes of action.
• Four minutes later, USC Upstate wasted no time as Montanna Hill sets up a sprinting Honis who blasted one into the net as they pushed their lead to 2-0.
• Two minutes later Hill sets up a streaking Ellis as she skips one into the net to give the Spartans a 3-0 advantage at the nine minute mark.

The Lady Pirates travel to Farmville, Va for a Big South match up on Wednesday, Oct. 3 as they clash with Longwood University at 7:00pm.
