HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Hampton volleyball team pushed the three-time defending Big South Conference champions High Point on Friday night falling in four sets in a match that saw 18 ties and 11 lead changes 25=19, 22-25, 25-23, 25-19.

In the first set, Hampton trailed by as much as five points and trimmed it to three as late as 21-18, but the Panthers scored four of the last five points to win 25-19.
Hampton jumped out to a 5-3 lead in the second set but saw the host rip off six of the next seven points to lead 9-6 on a kill by Annie Sullivan. The Lady Pirates responded with nine of the next 11 points to lead 15-11 after an attack error. That lead never got lower than two points for Hampton as a
Gabby Calloway kill gave the Lady Pirates the second set 25-22.
In the third set, High Point got out to the quick 5-2 start but Hampton went on a 10-4 run to lead 12-9 after a kill by
Genevieve Reynolds. Hampton held the lead till the late stages of the set as the Panthers scored five of the last seven points to take a 25-23 third set win.
The hosts took over the fourth set but saw Hampton twice as late as 15-all. From there, High Point scored seven of the next nine points to lead 22-17 en route to the 25-19 fourth set win.
Calloway had 10 kills and seven digs, while
Jessica Pugh added 18 digs and
Lena Reed-Petracek had 25 assists for Hampton. The Lady Pirates return to action on Saturday at Radford in a 4pm start.
