HAMPTON, Va. - Hampton Lady Pirates opened a weekend homestand with a thrilling five-set win over Radford University winning 25-18, 25-18, 17-25, 21-25, 15-11 in Holland Hall on Friday night.
Sydney Sumner had 21 kills and 16 digs, 
Gabby Calloway added 15 and 18 digs, while 
Sasha Saric chipped in 17 kills and 
Jessica Pugh added 26 digs for Hampton (7-15, 2-9).
In the fourth set Hampton trailed 22-19 following a kill by 
Genevieve Reynolds. A kill by Sumner brought the scored to 23-21. The visitors would earn the set on a kill from Stephanie Neast.
In the decisive fifth set there were three ties and three lead changes. After a kill by Sumner, the Lady Pirates tied it at 9-9. Hampton would take the next three points pushing their lead to 12-9. Highlanders responded with two points of their own making it 13-11 after a kill by Mallory McKnight. Hampton clinched the final set on a block by 
Iloli Georgakopoulou and Saric.
The Lady Pirates will be back on the hardwood tomorrow, Nov. 9 at 2 pm against High Point University inside Holland Hall.
